A Guide to Audio and Video Conferencing Mode of Communication.

Communication methods have recently advanced due to the growth in technology industry. Audio and video conferencing is one of the communication methods that has seen a tremendous change, with high-tech equipment been used. This communication method involves two or more participants. This method of communication is mostly used in conferencing, boardroom meetings and several other gatherings. Audio, and video conferencing has some differences as outlined below.

While using audio conferencing, it is necessary to have a good quality telephone and a clear network reception for the audio to be successful. However, the participants will not require internet connection for an audio conference. Every participant in the video conference will be required to have internet connection as well as have compatible devices with the rest.

Each person in the video call will be required to have a microphone, a personal computer or desktop with web camera and any other device as may be required. You only need a telephone handset for audio conference.

Participants in a video conferencing can see each other face-to-face and can share graphics, presentations, etc. Since participants will not be seeing each other in an audio conference, they will therefore be required to have shared any presentation or file to be discussed earlier in advance as it cannot be shared in real time during the conference.

The environment for the two conferencing methods is very different. Audio conference call can take place in any set up or surrounding, therefore the participants do not have to worry of where they are located. Since the participants should be seeing each other during a video conference, the lighting and the surroundings should be appropriate.

There are advantages and disadvantages to this mode of communication. One advantage is that there are free easy to use software where one can download and use over the internet to communicate easily. One can be able to join in the conference from any part of the world, therefore allowing them to participate in classes, church, board meetings etc. even when they are far away.

The mode of communication saves time and costs as participants do not have to travel to one location for a meeting.

Video conferencing requires internet connection, therefore, lack of a steady connection during the conference will bring disruptions in between the conference as video conference will keep dropping for participants with poor internet connection. Audio conferencing also requires clear network for users to be able to use the telephone effectively. It also relies on good quality devises and tools, therefore someone with a sub-standard devise such as microphone in video call might not be able to participate.

In cases where users are sharing computers in video conferencing or users are not familiar with some gadgets been used, the conferencing process will be interfered with and might not be successful.
